Nordic Smart Grid Solutions is proud to announce another major achievement for the renewable energy landscape: the EcoSolar Battery Energy Storage System.

Located in the historic steel city of Frederiksværk, this project represents more than just another energy installation. It is a strong example of how legacy industrial infrastructure can be repurposed to meet modern energy needs. Transforming a decommissioned factory site into a fully operational battery energy storage system, leveraging an existing grid connection and step-up station, highlights an efficient and forward-thinking approach to grid balancing. It is both exciting and encouraging to see how former industrial hubs can play a key role in enabling the green transition.

As renewable energy demands grow, so does the need for large-scale storage solutions. Nordic Smart Grid Solutions recently partnered with EcoSolar ApS and Brade Consulting to successfully bring a 28 MWh Battery Energy Storage System online. Commissioning a site of this magnitude featured 14 massive utility-scale battery units along with their corresponding transformers and power conversion systems.

Our assignment was clear: BESS commissioning. Throughout the project, our engineering team conducted testing across every layer of the facility. During the initial Cold Commissioning phase, we systematically verified foundation levelling, structural spacing, and electrical grounding protocols, ensuring that all high-voltage cabling was properly torqued and secured to exact safety specifications. When it was time to energize the site, our Hot Commissioning protocol put the system to the test. To ensure flawless communication, our team successfully built and configured the optical fiber rings connecting the battery units to the central control systems. We resolved network communication anomalies, stress-tested the critical fire suppression panels, and managed essential software calibrations across the site. Finally, we established secure SCADA network integration, proving the system’s readiness with live data.

The EcoSolar facility was perfectly calibrated for the grid. This 28 MWh project stands as another proof of our specialized expertise.
