Making History: Commissioning Denmark's First Utility-Scale BESS in Horsens

Nordic Smart Grid Solutions is honored to announce that we were part of a landmark achievement for the entire Danish energy landscape, the Horsens Battery Energy Storage System project.

At the time of its completion, the Horsens site stood as the first-ever utility-scale battery installation in Denmark. Boasting an 8 MWh capacity, the Horsens site was designed to introduce flexibility and resilience to the grid. Pioneering a country’s first utility-scale battery installation requires flawless execution from the ground up. The site features a massive Smart Transformer Station (STS) paired with utility-scale battery units. Managing the complex electrical and communication interplay of these systems is where NSGS truly stood out.

NSGS handled the entire end-to-end BESS commissioning. Our scope covered the critical Cold and Hot Commissioning phases. For a battery site, commissioning is not just a final checklist; it is the most vital step in ensuring long-term safety, efficiency, and grid synchronization.
