NSGS Successfully Commissions 200MWh Kvosted BESS

Nordic Smart Grid Solutions is thrilled to announce the successful commissioning of the Kvosted BESS project in collaboration with Huawei and European Energy.

The Kvosted Battery Energy Storage System is more than just a milestone for Nordic Smart Grid Solutions. It is a record-breaking achievement for the Danish energy landscape. As the largest utility-scale battery project in the Nordics to date, Kvosted represents a massive leap forward in grid stabilization and renewable energy integration. NSGS is proud to say we played a role in making it happen.

At a staggering capacity of 200 MWh, the Kvosted site is designed to provide the flexibility and resilience required by a modern, green power grid. However, the true story of this project lies in the complex technical orchestration required to bring such a massive asset online in record time.

The Kvosted Project consists of 9 Smart Transformer Stations and 45 battery units. Managing a project of this scale requires a deep understanding of how individual components interact within a complex ecosystem. NSGS was tasked to support the commissioning and installation activities, where we also took on a strategic advisory role based on our prior commissioning experience across the Nordics. Working alongside European Energy and Huawei, the NSGS team provided daily updates and technical guidance to help meet the project deadline, supporting the installation phase through quality-focused supervision and ensuring a smooth and structured delivery.

Key technical contributions by NSGS included:

  • Cold & Hot Commissioning: Support during cold and hot commissioning of Smart Transformer Stations, battery systems, and site network architecture, ensuring correct system integration and readiness for operation.
  • Training & Knowledge Transfer: On-site training was provided to the European Energy O&M team covering installation practices, operational principles, and safe handling of Smart Transformer Stations and battery units.
  • Network & Communication Optimization: Our team oversaw the testing and stabilization of the high-speed communication rings between site controllers. By ensuring seamless data flow across the entire 200 MWh array, we guaranteed that the site could be monitored and controlled with total precision.

The Kvosted Project BESS is a testament to strengthening NSGS’s position as a commissioning and supervision expert in the BESS market. We look forward to further cooperation with European Energy on upcoming projects this year and continuing to handle the most ambitious energy storage projects in Europe.
